Social Events
The 14th February, St Valentine’s Day was a fun day which was dedicated to raising sponsorship money for Malcolm Greenwood who is representing Spain in Hong Kong.
A lot of fun was had by those who joined even though the format had to be changed due to the number of people who had put their names down, and then did not turn up.
It was a cold grey day but we very lucky the rain held off.
But we were all grateful when the game was over and we could get a warm drink inside us.
The prizes of hampers were presented by Dennis, but we wondered if Brenda knows how Neil feels about him!
Neil Marshall & Judy Old breifly got one each as winners, but this was quickly taken back when the organisers realised that had not got all the score cards in.
We had one last roll of the bowls for an extra prize then we drew the winner of the the Great Wall of China. The 1st prize went to Dessie Anthony and the 2nd prize was won by Tony Farmer. Malcolm was then presented with nearly €500 to help with the expenses of going to Hong Kong.

On the 1st February during the Andalucian Championships Peter Fry and Roy Wilkins arranged a ham, egg and chip supper at the Terrace followed by entertainment by Beaky. The evening was a great success with players from all the participating clubs attending.
Margaret Watson wanted no publicity,
but everyone enjoyed a good old sing song,
followed by a dance.
Well they were having a good time a good time
but where was the bar. The next day it was back to the bowling!!
Mince Pie and Mulled Wine
Just before Christmas we had a Mince Pie and Mulled Wine Competition organised by Jo the manageress of the Bowls Club. Trophies ( old ones which were found in the back of the Casita) were provided for the winner of the competition, the booby prize and fancy dress winners. We started in the morning and played triples we drew out of the bag which team we played with and then played 6 ends. Then we drew out of the bag again for our next team played another 6 ends then drew again we all kept our individual score and the person with the highest score was the winner! Doreen Fabron won the competition and Frances Farmer was awarded the Booby prize. Jenny the dog was declared the winner of the ladies fancy dress competition and Aussie was given a long sausage as a prize (nobody knew why) and Neil turned up in uniform just in case there was trouble (we were all on our best behaviour). Mince pies and mulled wine were provided at each break by the bar staff and a great day was had by one and all! Thank you Jo!
St Swithins Day 14th July 2007
St Swithins Day dawned without a cloud in the sky, but that did not stop some of the players in our Fun Day from getting soaked! The social committee had arranged for a sprinkler to be turned on during the matches, therefore we had rain on St Swithins Day. The social committee had also arranged plates of traditional English Garden Party Sandwiches, cucumber with the crusts cut off, smoked salmon on brown bread, egg mayonnaise and cheese and pickle, all served with cups of tea during the half time break.
A good number turned up and we played trips and pairs, where everyone had to change position after 6 ends. No expense had been spared on the prizes and it was decided to award the 1st prize to the team with the lowest score. This turned out to be Ramon and Margaret with a score of 2 points, and they were duly presented with emergency plastic rain ponchos. Second prize was awarded to Aussie, Doreen and Vilma with a score of 12 points, their prize was a plastic shower cap each, collected from various hotels around the world courtesy of Frances Farmer!
A vote of thanks was given to the organisers of the day, the club bar staff and to the ladies of the social committee, Frances, Diana, Maggie, Wendy and Doreen for the catering.
