It was held over 2 days in a morning and afternoon session. With the winners of each section playing each other for the winners prize, and the runners up in each section vying for the runners up prizes. The prizes were presented by Robert Gillespie of 1 Car 1

The Summer Championships were played out in beautiful weather with a large entry for all disciplines. The climax of the finals was scheduled for Satuarday 27th September, when the heavens opened as can happen in Spain. Several of the finalists were unable to get through the floods. Those heroes who did arrive allowed the finals of the Ladies Singles and the Open Triples to take place in front of a brave group of soggy supporters.Diana Johnson Winner Ladies Singles Angie Knight played Diana Johnston in an exciting and close, though very damp match. Angie’s last bowl just running out of steam in the torrential rain to leave Diana with 2 bowls in the head giving her the 21 points she needed. The final score 21-11 to Diana. The Triples, consisting of David Hunter,David Jones and Murray Jones from Superbowl and Neil Marshall,Sandy Guthrie and Dennis King from Benavista, also had a very competitive and entertaining game. Being mere males they had to stop for a while when the heavens opened.  When they recommenced it was a ding-dong battle with the Benavista Triple sealing their victory in the last end. The Men’s Singles between Davie Hunter and Mike Dethridge , both from Superbowl, started well for Davie he was in front by 13 shots when Mike made his comeback attempt . Davie answered positively and won in the end by 4 shots. Final score Davie Hunter 21, Mike Dethridge 17.

The pairs final was again between members of the same club, this time it was Benavista. Sandy Guthrie and Gordon Adams versus Dennis King and Neil Marshall. Sandy and Gordon just couldn’t match an in form Dennis and Neil on this occasion and went down by a disappointing 7-18 Final score Neil Marshall and Dennis King 18, Sandie Guthrie and Gordon Adams 7.

The Fours’ final was between Benavista and Superbowl. This promised to be quite a battle between Shirley Owen, Pat Fisher, Terry Barrett and Craig Lewis from Superbowl and, on the other side, Wendy and Barry Pemberton John Carr and Malcolm Greenwood from Benavista. The Benavista four started well then the Superbowl started to come back but unfortunately they left it too late and Benavista won by 12 shots. Final score Benavista 21, Superbowl 9.

The Federation representatives and visitors were welcomed to the Club by Dennis King our Captain. He said what a wonderful competition it was and how every one had played so well. He thanked the staff at the club for looking after us when we had home games and he also thanked Maggie Ogden for preparing and taking sandwiches to the away games, thus saving the bowlers from starvation!! Maggie was later presented with a bouquet and a jar of ‘Sandwich Spread’ as a thank you!!.

Dennis then turned the presentation over to Murray Johns. He thanked everybody for turning up, and the bar staff, Sharon, Mel, Debbie and our new ‘chef’ Caterina, for the catering and Hughie Holgate for his hospitality and the impressive job he had made of Benavista turning it into possibly the best club on the coast. He said that everytime they came Hughie had added another improvement.

He then got on to the subject of the Presentation saying, that in the Triples League, after the 1st match when Mijas had come to Benavista and well and truly trounced us, we got our act together and never looked back. The Kings Cup was a lot closer, and it came down to the last game, for Benevista to make sure that they would also win the Kings Cup. There had been over 100 players taking part over the summer including some who had never played in competition before. He was very pleased that Los Amigos had been envolved, and hoped that next year would be just as good.

He then congratulated triples team of Dennis King, Sandy Guthrie and Neil Marshall for getting a hot shot during the match on July 7th He then presented them with a ‘Gold’ medal engraved with the date. After that, he also congratulated Wendy Pemberton for not losing a singles match in the Kings Cup for 2 years. He also said he wished us luck when the winners of the other Spanish Regions visited us in October and said he knew we would give the other clubs a run for their money. While some of us played an 8 end match the rest of the visitors tucked into a buffet provided by the staff of the Bowls Club.

We won the Summer Triples, I will post the full results when I receive them and last night we had to win the last match of the season by 2 points to ensure a win over Superbowl. Belplaya/Los Amigos fought hard and in the end we managed to gain 3 points to give us the Kings Cup as well. Clean sweep.
