The Benavista Classic sponsored by Langtons Financial Services was held from the 3rd-11th November and the weather held all week enabling our Competition Secretary Russell Roper to complete all the matches on schedule.

This time it was decided to play the pairs competition first, including the final, and then to play the triples competition. This worked well and it meant the organiser did not have to worry if 2 players qualified for both finals. There was however, dissapointment felt by some, that they did not have the thrill of watching both finals being played at the same time.

The standard of play was, as usual, extremely high and the pairs matches were mostly decided, in the later stages, by just a 1 or 2 shot difference. The final was another exciting match in which Isobella Neilson and Barry Pemberton of Benavista  just held on to beat Mike Detheridge and Tony Frowd of Superbowl.

The triples matches were just as good , but in the later stages the matches seemed to one sided and matches were being conceeded. The finals match was between 2 Benavista sides, and despite the score some very good bowls were played, but no matter how hard they tried the team of Bert Campbell, Sam Hughes and Steve McManus, could not beat The Winning team of David Finestone, Bill Ogden and Frank Vernon, the final score being 17-9.

The prizes were presented by the representatives of Langtons and Gordon Adams, Club President thanked all those involved in the organisation and running of the competition. Russell Roper Competition Secretary, the staff behind the bar for all they hard work in keeping us fed and watered, the Umpires, and Diana King for organising another successful Classic Raffle.
