The Club Championships were played on various days over a 2 week period with the finals on Saturday 23rd February 2008.

The weeks saw quite a few surprises in the rounds leading up to the finals on Saturday. The weather threatened to spoil things and we spent the Tuesday dashing in and out of the rain trying to get the quarter finals finished.

On Saturday morning the Ladies Semi-Finals were played between Angie Knight & Wendy Pemberton and Frances Farmer & Diana Johnston. Both matches were extremely tight with any of the ladies able to win their match right up to the final end. But there could only be one winner from each match so Wendy Pemberton and Frances Farmer went into the final. This match started off very evenly but Wendy gradually pulled ahead and went on to win the Club Ladies Singles Championships.

Saturday Morning also saw the Men’s Semi-finals between Roy Wilkins & Peter Fry and Tony Wright & Neil Marshall. Once again these were nail biting matches with the results in the balance all the way. The Finals were eventually between Peter Fry and Tony Wright. After a short break battle commenced and another good match between evenly matched players was enjoyed by the spectators who braved the cold. But as always you can only have one club champion and Peter Fry won the match.
