The Benavista summer pairs competition sponsored by Absolute Windows started on Wednesday 12th September. On Wednesday morning the weather looked ominous, and after we had played the first few ends the heavens opened. The rain was so bad we could not see the other end of the green. Trying to get into the club house resulted in everyone getting soaked through. The rain lasted for about 25 minutes and we thought we would not be able to play for the rest of the morning, but the drainage on the new green was so good within 10 minutes of the rain stopping we were able to start playing again.

From then on the weather behaved itself, and the competition was played on schedule. On Sunday the 2 semi-finals were played in the morning, Murray Johns and Kate Morris were defeated by Wendy Pemberton and Phil Coates and Roy Wilkins playing with a substitute Jimmy Watson were defeated by Roger Sutton and Paul Brown.

The final was a very close match with both teams evenly matched, but luck was on the side of Roger Sutton and Paul Brown who won 18 - 10 after 17 ends. Picture shows the winners receiving their prizes.
